- we will enable just image files for the moment: .jpg .gif .png
- will add additional media file formats when we see how people intend to use the wiki
- e-res can make streaming audio available for classes; if we can get the files it may be possible to include streaming audio files
- We will see if we can get the code for the Wikipedia image file upload wizard, found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Upload
- adds licensing information and restricts whether the picture can be downloaded from the site

- currently project team plus Alan (Rita?), may add Transcriptions, ACGCC, and EMC Ras?
- will not have FTP access to the site therefore cannot directly access LocalSettings, etc.
- "users"
- Options for managing protected pages:
- option 1 - restrict access based upon categories; requires one extension to the code
- http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CategoryPermissions *Kim's preference
- allows users to add the category "protected" to any article in the wiki to restrict viewing access to one or more usergroups.
- also a valid option but the setup is more complex
- pros: low learning curve; anyone can protect pages
- cons: extension may cause problems with eventual upgrades; Kim foresees this as a low risk
- http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CategoryPermissions *Kim's preference
- option 2: create two wikis with a shared user database, use wiki interlinks to connect the pages
- pros: should be transparent to user; no relying on extensions
- cons: additional learning curve with inter-wiki linking; managing two separate installations - upgrades, etc. will be more cumbersome
- We decided to go with option 1
- at the moment, there are no locked pages on the EDKB
- most locked resources take advantage of the scribe folder on the server
- we will not add the protected page category extension until we find a need for it
- option 1 - restrict access based upon categories; requires one extension to the code
- we set up a edkbwiki email account on gmail. People can send new materials for inclusion there.
- Username: edkbwiki@gmail.com
